Spice up pizza night with a homemade buffalo chicken pizza! Zesty buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, toppings galore, and plenty of stretchy cheese make this one flavorful pie. Recipe includes a how-to video!
Homemade Buffalo Chicken Pizza
Buffalo chicken lovers, this one’s for you! Today’s buffalo chicken pizza recipe is perfect for pizza night. We’ve got protein from the chicken, tons of flavor from the toppings, and of course, plenty of buffalo sauce. Serve it with a side salad and you’ve got a quick and satisfying dinner!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Inspired by buffalo chicken dip, quite possibly the most beloved dip ever. It’s cheesy, zesty, and just SO good.
- No soggy or doughy crust, thanks to par-baking. We’re adding quite a few toppings here, and the last thing we want is a too-soft base.
- Pizzeria-style results in your own kitchen! You can even make your own pizzeria appetizers too–try my mozzarella sticks, garlic knots, or jalapeno poppers (and stay tuned for my arancini — coming soon!)!
Ingredients
Surprisingly, buffalo chicken pizza is very simple to make at home. Here’s what my recipe includes.
- Pizza dough. I made today’s recipe using my pizza dough recipe (it’s the #1 recipe on Google for good reason and has over 4,000 5-star reviews!). However, I also love using my sourdough pizza crust (the flavor is incredible), but even store-bought pizza crust will work.
- Buffalo & ranch dressing. These take the place of classic pizza sauce. Use your favorite brands, and feel free to adjust the heat level of your buffalo sauce if you like it spicy!
- Mozzarella cheese. I always like to shred my own cheese for the best gooey cheese pulls, but this is an instance where you can still use pre-shredded cheese with great results. Part-skim mozzarella works well here.
- Chicken. Diced grilled chicken, shredded rotisserie chicken, or even my crockpot shredded chicken will work. Whatever you use, make sure it’s pre-cooked and ready to go beforehand.
- Toppings. I like scallions, red onion, and tomatoes. If you want to add jalapeños, cilantro, banana peppers, bacon, etc. feel free! Sometimes I even like to add little cream cheese dollops on mine (about an oz of cream cheese cut into small cubes and scattered under the cheese is amazing) 😋
SAM’S TIP: Make sure you remove the seeds from your tomato, otherwise it will be too watery and make your pizza soggy.

How to Make Buffalo Chicken Pizza
Prepare the dough
I like to par-bake this pizza since the bulk of toppings could make it soggy. If your crust is already par-baked, then you can skip this step.
- Roll out your dough, then place on a pizza pan and brush with olive oil.
- Bake until light golden brown. I also like to brush the crust with with a bit more olive oil after baking.
- Stir together the buffalo sauce and ranch dressing, then spread about two tablespoons over the dough. It should be a thin, mostly-even layer.
- Toss the chicken with the remaining sauce, then scatter this over the pizza.
- Add half of the onions and tomatoes, then sprinkle the cheese over everything. Finish with the remaining onions and tomatoes.
- Bake until bubbly. I like to add a drizzle of ranch and buffalo overtop and garnish with scallions before serving!
SAM’S TIP: Make sure your oven is nice and hot! This will make for a crisp crust with a chewy interior.
Frequently Asked Questions
Use whichever brand is your favorite! Some popular favorites include Frank’s, Sweet Baby Rays, Crystal, and Primal Kitchen (we use this most often). Whatever kind you enjoy is what will work best here.
Sure! I’m personally not a big fan of blue cheese, so that’s why I don’t include it here. But feel free to add that instead of or in addition to the ranch dressing. Or you can sprinkle the crumbles overtop!
In my house, not long! 😉 If you have leftover pizza, you can store it in the fridge for up to four days. To reheat, you can use your oven or a skillet on the stove. Or you can just eat it cold instead, if you’re a fan of cold pizza!
Enjoy!

I used your pizza dough recipe (yummy!) and forgot to par- bake the crust. Still turned out well. I can no longer do spicy, didn’t have blue cheese or ranch, so I used a bit of pasata to soften the Franks. Also used a light hand on the toppings. Being from Wisconsin, I used Brick cheese. At the end of the baking time, I turned off the oven, added a mozz-cheddar blend to half, and left it in the oven until the cheese melted. This tasted so delicious, it was tough waiting for it to cool. Definitely a keeper. Thank you, Sam, for a great recipe.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it so much, Cheryl! ๐

Author doesn’t like blue cheese so uses ranch dressing. Alas, anyone who knows the origin of classic Buffalo Wings knows they are traditionally served with blue cheese & not ranch. This isn’t authentic & not worth the time to figure out the necessary adjustments.

Hi Anni King! On my website I share recipes that I think are the best versions. I never advertised this as an authentic buffalo wing recipe so I’m not sure why you are confused about that. However, I do discuss in the blog post that you can certainly add blue cheese crumbles on top, this is very much an “add as much as you’d like” thing so not too much effort to figure out the necessary adjustments. Hope that helps clear things up for you!
