You only need three ingredients to make this classic homemade Lemonade Recipe. It’s so simple and refreshing–perfect for a summer day! Recipe includes a how-to video.

The Easiest, Most Refreshing Lemonade Recipe
I know some of you are going to see this and think, “Do we really need a lemonade recipe?”. Sure lemonade is one of those things that can be thrown together and still taste great (like mac and cheese or French toast); however, having a reliable recipe is still important.
Lemonade is easy to make, but getting the ratios right is critical. Too much lemon and it’s too tart and undrinkable, and too much water and it’s, well, watered down. What I’m sharing today is a perfectly balanced lemonade recipe that everyone is going to love.
Why You’ll Love My Lemonade Recipe:
- Super smooth and evenly sweetened, thanks to simple syrup.
- Can easily be doubled or tripled–perfect for lemonade stands!
- Not too tart and not too sweet; the balance of lemon and sugar is just right.
- Pairs well with iced tea to make an Arnold Palmer.
What You Need

You only need three simple ingredients to make this lemonade recipe (or two, if you don’t count water!):
- Lemons. It probably won’t come as a surprise to you that I recommend using freshly squeezed lemons for this recipe (as I do with my lemon cheesecake). You’ll only need 3-4 nice sized lemons to get one cup of juice.
- Sugar. Plain granulated sugar works just fine, you could also substitute caster sugar!
- Water. I use tap water because mine doesn’t have a flavor, but if yours has a chlorinated taste use bottled or filtered water.
SAM’S TIP: This isn’t totally necessary, but I like to garnish my homemade lemonade with additional sliced lemons for a bright and sunny look.
Remember, this is just an overview of the ingredients I used and why. For the full recipe please scroll down to the bottom of the post!
How to Make Lemonade

- Combine 1 cup each of sugar and water and cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Set the syrup aside to cool for about 10 minutes.
- Combine the cooled syrup and freshly-squeezed lemon juice in a pitcher.
- Add the remaining water and stir, then pour over ice and enjoy!
SAM’S TIP: I like to use this tool to juice my lemons; it makes the job so much easier!

Yes, you can make this lemonade recipe using bottled lemon juice. My brother does this all the time, and the lemonade is still excellent.
Fresh mint, rosemary, and lavender are all delicious pairings with homemade lemonade! Or, you could always make my easy strawberry lemonade.

You can find me sipping a glass of this on my front porch all summer long 😎

Where can I get ALL of your recipes??!!! Is there a cookbook that has all of your recipes? From sweets to different drinks and beyond??!!! I’d love to buy a couple!!!
Hi Gretchen! All of my recipes are on my website. I am in the process of making a cookbook. It should come out in November. It will have 80 recipes. There are several hundred recipes on my site so it would be a HUGE book, plus I am always adding new recipes. 🙂 I also have a few ebooks available on my site as well. Thank you so much for trusting my recipes. 🙂
back up from 200gramd of sugar to 180 / 170.
or 150grams plus 2 large teaspoons of honey.
also add some lemon zest and a spring of mint. other than that tiptop.
if you leave out 3/4 of the liquid you can use it as a intense lemon syrup, add gin and some tonic.
yep simple syrup is where it is at. best lemonade I ever made, did it again this time with blue raspberry syrup. huge hit with my kiddos
Best lemonade recipe ever. Lemonade used to be my favorite drink, but I stopped drinking it years ago because I can’t tolerate tart/sour flavors anymore. When my daughter wanted us to make lemonade together, this is the recipe I chose, and I am so grateful I did! We both love it and I can finally drink lemonade again 🙂
Delicious 🍋
tried this yesterday with assistance from my husband. OMG so good!
lemonade nothing to say
How many cups does it make
Hi Kody! 1 cup is 8oz so this will make 8 cups of lemonade. 🙂
I tried this recipe with about 3/4 cup of sugar or less, and I later realized why it was one cup… But still the best lemonade I ever tried! Thank you for the recipe!
Can I freeze this before adding the water. I want to make it for a celebration of life that will be held in July
Hi Tammie! I haven’t personally tried it, but I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work. 🙂
Absolutely delicious!! First time Imade it exact (doubled tho for a gallon). Second time I made the half gallon but cut the sugar back from 1 cup to 2/3 cup … omg SO good. Maybe better because it gives just that little more zing and of course slightly healthier too!
Thank you so much for trying my recipe, Christy! I’m so glad you enjoyed it so much! 🙂
I’ve made lemonade before and it came out terrible, this recipe is soooo simple and sooooo delicious. Wow!
Thank you so much for trying my recipe, Denise! I’m so glad you enjoyed it so much! 🙂
Made this tonight as I had juiced lemons in order to use the rings for lemon syrup and this is the best tasting lemonade I’ve ever made. Thumbs up from both my husband and I!
Will try your lemonade including strawberry lemonade.
I hope you love it! 🙂
Turned out great! Added a little extra lemon juice as I like it more on the tart side. How long does it keep for in the fridge?
Thank you so much for trying my recipe, Kaitlyn! I’m so glad you enjoyed it so much! I would say it would be good for about 5 days in the refrigerator, if it lasts that long. 😉
