Easy Desserts -- Nutella Crunch Dessert Shooters

My inability to make decisions is well-documented and ever-irritating.  I pity my husband.  I know, Zach, that it shouldn’t take me 3 hours to decide which bar of soap to buy, but if you think for a second that I’m putting out a hard-earned $3 without first carefully reading and assessing every review on Amazon, well, you’ve lost your mind.

And while I stress about most of my dessert recipes fairly equally (making sure I’ve selected the best ingredients and ratios and baking times etc.), it seems to be the “simplest” recipes that absolutely make me want to tear my hair out.

These sweet and simple, supremely easy, no-bake Nutella Crunch Dessert Shooters are a prime example.

Easy Desserts -- Nutella Crunch Dessert Shooters

A dozen text messages and photos went out to my siblings, filled with questions about general preferences and pleas for opinions, and it finally took one sister and another sister’s boyfriend showing up at my house and taste-testing these dessert shooters before I finally settled upon the perfect recipe.

The good news is, once the recipe is done and published, I know that I’m satisfied with it.  This recipe is no exception, and these might just be my favorite miniature desserts yet.

Easy Desserts -- Nutella Crunch Dessert Shooters

These dessert shooters are simple creatures, easy to make, no-bake, and bite-sized.

The first time I made them, the cookie crumbs were limited to the very bottom and the tippy-top of the shooters, but clearly something was lacking.

I ultimately decided (thanks to the help and support of my siblings and their significant others) that I wanted some more crunch throughout the dessert.

A full cup of pulverized Oreo crumbs adds a nice crunch to every bite.  The filling is otherwise creamy, rich, and thick with Nutella flavoring.  The best alternative to eating it straight out of the jar by the spoonful.

My sister, Nikki, also recommends freezing them before eating for an extra frosty treat, though I haven’t tried them that way yet.

    Enjoy!

    Prep Time: 30 minutes
    Total Time: 30 minutes
    Servings: 25 2-oz shooters
    Calories: 232kcal
    Author: Sam Merritt

    Ingredients

    • You will need 25 2-oz plastic shotglasses.
    • 20 Oreo cookies
    • 2 Tbsp butter melted
    • 12 oz cream cheese softened, (1½ bricks)
    • 1 ¾ cups Nutella
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 4 cups thawed Cool Whip topping + additional 4 oz for topping about 12 oz
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • In food processor, pulverize your Oreo cookies.
    • Measure out one cup and set aside.
    • Add your melted butter to the remaining crumbs and stir until well combined.
    • Press about 1 tsp of crumb-mixture into the bottom of each shot glass and gently tamp down. Reserve the leftover crumbs for topping.
    • In stand-mixer, cream together cream cheese and Nutella.
    • Gradually add 10x sugar, scraping down sides of the bowl as needed.
    • With mixer on low-speed, stir in cool whip, making sure to pause occasionally to scrape down sides of bowl.
    • On low-speed, stir in your reserved 1 cup of Oreo crumbs.
    • Fill a large plastic (Ziploc) baggie with your filling and cut about a 1" wide piece of the corner off.
    • Pipe Nutella filling into shot glasses. Spoon remaining Cool Whip evenly atop all dessert shooters.
    • Sprinkle with remaining Oreo crumbs.
    • Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

    Notes

*I always use these disposable shot glasses from Amazon for my dessert shooters.

Dollar Tree carries small plastic containers of different sizes…they also carry mini spoons that would look adorable to go with these mini desserts!!

One more question… I only have a hand mixer. Can I use that instead of a stand mixer?

I am planning on making a large batch of these treats. I just want to be sure I am understanding the measurements for the Cool Whip.
I plan on making 50 cups. So I would double this recipe.

Cool Whip measures out confusingly to me!

My store sells 8oz containers of cool whip.

How many containers would I need to make this recipe??

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Hi Sarah! You would need 16 oz for the Nutella mixture and then another additional 8 oz for the Cool Whip layer on top. So a total of 3 containers from your store. Does that help? Please let me know if you have any more questions 🙂

Hi Amy! 12 oz is just over 4 cups. Either will be fine and any slight difference will be indiscernible. I hope you love them! :).

I’m confused also. I thought 8oz+ 1 cup so 12 oz is 1 1/2 cups…Also, want to make in advance also…what kind of sealed container do you use?

        • Sam

          February 08, 2017 at 12:50 pm

Hi Candy, 1 cup would be 8 fluid ounces. 12 oz of Cool Whip is actually closer to 4 1/2 cups, but for this particular recipe to save you time it is fine to use 12 oz rather than measuring it out, the difference is negligible to the recipe.
If you measure it you will see that 12 oz is actually much more than 1 cup. And I use these (affiliate, I actually bought mine from WalMart and I think I paid less) containers to keep them.

They’ll definitely still be good tomorrow, just keep them refrigerated in a sealed container. I think they would be good for up to a week, if not longer. Hope you love them, Donna!

10x sugar is powdered sugar. The amount of Nutella listed is correct. I hope you love the recipe! 🙂

Sorry about the confusion! It states 1 3/4 cups Nutella, or 1 cup Nutella + another 3/4 cup of Nutella. Is that clearer? I think these will be a hit at your party! 😀

These look great! Was just wondering, does it actually need 13/4 cups nutella or was this a typo? Just seemed like a big number to me and I wanted to get it right before I make them.

        Hi Matt,
The amount is correct, if you want to start with less, though, and then increase as needed to suit your taste you may be able to get away with using less. I hope you love them!
