It’s that time of year again….
The dreaded time of year when the weather starts to get colder and football season rears its ugly head to reclaim the heart of my boyfriend.
Zach is a huge sports fan. I’m not opposed to sports, I enjoy going to Orioles baseball games (especially this year!) and I particularly enjoy sitting behind Nick Markakis
Zach has really played into my infatuation with Nick Markakis to help keep me interested in baseball, even going so far as to arrange for me to get his autograph
Unfortunately, there is no Nick Markakis on the Baltimore Ravens.
I know that SO many people truly love football, heart and soul, and get so excited about the games, wearing the jerseys of their favorite players and paying ridiculous sums of money to freeze outside and actually be there at the game. I’m just not one of those people, and I don’t know how I’ve ended up with someone who is. The idea of watching sports on TV is incredibly unappealing to me (I’m not much of a TV person to begin with anyway), and for the past 4 years I have always found one way or another to entertain myself while my boyfriend screams at the TV (when we first started dating, I went to his house to do homework while he watched the game, and he ended up throwing a spoon at the wall in frustration… I should have known then… 😉 )
Anyway, being the fantastic girlfriend I am, for the first game tonight I am forcing myself to sit down and actually watch the first Raven’s game of the season. No reading, facebooking, texting, or otherwise entertaining myself. Full focus on the TV. I’m even wearing purple and black.
This is going to be a long evening….
I had a lot of veggies in my fridge right now that I needed to use up before they went bad.
I recently found these healthy whole wheat pita pockets and was excited to try them out
They taste great, and I brought the pita and veggies and humus each to work separately to assemble during my lunch (nobody likes a soggy pita pocket).
At lunch time, I filled each half of the pita with a layer of traditional hummus, sliced red bell peppers, and sliced cucumbers, then munched on baby carrots dipped in leftover hummus afterwards.
Only time for a quick workout at the gym so I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical and another 2 minutes planking. Every machine I wanted to use was taken so I didn’t get the strength workout in that I wanted to, but I had to hurry home to shower and be ready for the game.
Post workout, I got home to find that one of my sisters had baked some delicious-smelling cookies, but I was hungry and knew that if I ate one I wouldn’t be able to stop until at least a dozen were in my stomach.
I was craving something sweet though so I snacked on almonds dipped in a tablespoon of Nutella (my new-found love)
Sure, Nutella’s not the healthiest thing in the world, but this snack hit the spotperfectly.
I needed a fast but filling dinner, so I mixed up some Buffalo Egg whites again… only this time I left in a yolk for some added nutrients.
(chopped onion, 5 egg whites, 1 egg yolk, 1 Tbsp Buffalo Sauce & ground black pepper to taste… topped with ketchup)
OK, now off to watch the game!
